Rural LIFT is a Rural Community Transport Company serving Leitrim, West Cavan and the Bundoran/Ballyshannon district under the Department of Transport's Rural Transport Programme (RTP).
The RTP was initiated as a response to the growing acknowledgement of the economic and social impacts of inadequate transport in rural areas and the increasing level of interest amongst community and local development groups in developing and implementing locally based solutions.
Services are planned to provide flexible community-based transport to meet the needs of those experiencing transport difficulties. Rural LIFT services are semi-fixed or 'Demand-Responsive'; passengers can phone the Transport Co-ordination Centre anytime before or on the afternoon before travel to request that the bus divert a short distance from the normal route to collect them at their door or lane-way.
The Transport Co-ordination Centre acts as an access point within the community for transport information incorporating Rural LIfT, Bus Eireann, Ulster Bus and private operator routes and services. Rural LIfT offer additional transport services to community groups thoughtout the year.
